Which cities, states have the highest divorce rates?

Marriages in Texas or anywhere across the country may end due to a variety of reasons. Couples cite financial problems, stress and infidelity as common reasons for seeking a divorce. In addition, some couples believe that one or both spouses have experienced personal changes during the marriage. Whatever the cause of divorce, experts agree that the process can potentially be difficult for the families involved. Consideration for any children in the families should be given to alleviate their stress about the divorce.

An association of psychologists reports that the divorce rate for the country is between 40 and 50 percent. The rate is higher for those couples who have married for the second time. A popular financial news website recently compiled a listing of the divorce rate for each state in the nation using data from the Census Bureau. The list also included the cities in each state that had the highest divorced population. The married population percentage was also provided for all the states.

In Texas, the city of Bonham had the highest divorce population at 18.9 percent. This is considerably higher than the statewide figure of  a 10.8 percent divorced population. The report shows that 39.3 percent of the state population is married.

Maine and Nevada tied for topping the list with the highest statewide divorced populations, while New Jersey had the lowest state number at 8.5 percent. Per the survey, the city with the highest divorced population was Clarkson, Washington, at 25.7 percent. Oklahoma had the highest married population with 54.2 percent.

Whether or not someone's city or state tops lists such as these, his or her divorce is a uniquely personal experience. A person going through a divorce needs a trusted Texas attorney working with them to ensure that every concern is adequately addressed. A knowledgeable lawyer will work with clients to guide them through all aspects of the divorce proceedings.
