Marie is a native San Antonian and has served and practiced in the community for over 23 years. Marie graduated from St. Mary’s University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Public Justice.

In fall of 1993, Marie was presented with an opportunity to move to Washington DC and serve as an administrative aide to the late U.S. Congressman, Henry B. Gonzalez. The move was one that would forever change her view of the law, and the impact one person can have. Under the Congressman’s guidance and mentorship, she learned the inner workings of the legislative branch and was able to observe historical events as they occurred such as the Million Man March and White-Water congressional hearings. Listening to Congressman Gonzalez share personal stories of his role in the civil rights movement and his friendships with various U.S. Presidents, only made her desire to study and practice law grow. Marie also realized that she wanted to return to San Antonio and serve the community she grew up in.

In August of 1997, Marie returned to her home where she continued working for Congressman Gonzalez serving as a constituent liaison. She enrolled in St. Mary’s School of Law where during her tenure Marie participated in various student organizations and served as both a writer and Editor on The Scholar, St. Mary’s University’s Law Review on Minority Issues. In her third year as a student attorney with the Criminal Justice Clinic, she gained valuable litigation experience sitting first at a public intoxication jury trial and second chair in a Writ of Habeas Corpus hearing.

Marie graduated from Law School in 2000 and has since dedicated her 23 years of legal practice to areas of law that have the most impact on minorities in our society. Her experience ranges from workers compensation, immigration, and family law cases. Today her focused practice area consists of cases involving divorce, child custody, child support, enforcement, parental terminations and adoptions and jurisdiction disputes. Marie believes everyone deserves someone to advocate for them and ensure that their story gets heard.

When Marie is not at the office, nothing is more important to her than spending time with family. She also enjoys listening to music, traveling, and reading.
